Getting Started in Consulting

On Thursday, February 22, 2012 the IEEE Consultants' Network of Northern NJ (www.TechnologyOnTap.org) will host a panel discussion on getting started and surviving as an independent consultant.

How do I get started as a consultant? What are the benefits and what are the downsides? How can I maximize my chances of professional survival in these trying times?
The panelists will describe what motivated them to become consultants and how they accomplished it. They will address basics such as forming a business and finding clients, as well as offer insights on their approaches to keeping their practices afloat. Audience participation and questions will be welcomed.

Don Borcherding
Don Borcherding provides project management training and coaching to companies who need to achieve on-time quality. Having founded NexSummit, LLC in 2004, he has worked with small and large organizations to identify and manage project risk associated with innovative product development. He wrote a book called ?The Resourceful Project Manager? in 2011.

Ed McCauley
Ed McCauley is founder and president of Bottom Line Technologies Inc, (BLT) www.bltinc.com, a design service and product development company specializing in FPGAs and serving commercial and government Clients. Prior to founding BLT, Ed was part of the Xilinx initial field engineering sales team. John Redmon
John Redmon works as an independent consultant to a number of domestic and international utilities, high voltage customers, transit systems, and independent power producers, including solar and co-generation projects around the country. The meeting will be held in the Morris County Library. Snack food and refreshments will be available. Although there is no fee involved, in order to accommodate all participants, if possible, please advise us by noon, Monday, January 23, if you plan to attend.
